WHO IS GABRIELLE LASPORTE?

Creative Chick – Designer. Modern Batik Artist. Cool Funky Mom. Coordinator. Thinker. Friend. Supporter.

If you tell me that I’m a designer, visual artist or lover of creativity, flow, style and vibrant colour, you would be correct – but this is only scratching the surface of me. I see myself as a visual storyteller who is passionate about telling client stories.

WHY I DO WHAT I DO & HOW I FOUND TRUE LOVE

I actually never wanted to work as a designer or to work in the arts. Resisting the pull of the universe for seven years (never a good thing), I found myself studying to be a translator, getting a generic BA in university, working in uninspiring jobs.

Then one day I took a leap of faith and finally applied, got accepted and started the design program at George Brown College. Then I exhaled.

I was in love. In love with typography, drawing, coming up with creative and inspiring ideas. I was in love with the process of creating.

My passion is sparked when clients come to me with campaign concepts, a new business or a design challenge. This is when my wheels start turning and the ideas come to me. I love coming up with new ways to engage the audience – and drawing them into the visual stories I am telling. I love delving into the role of visual storyteller.

I’M NOT JUST ANOTHER GRAPHIC DESIGNER. . .

Think of me as a visual communicator of sorts. Before the designer was born, there was the visual artist.

Drawing since the age of 14, I have been the creator of many diverse art pieces across many forms of media from pencil and charcoal to screenprinting and most recently Modern Batik. Chances are if it has to do with art, I have tried it, used it, shaped it, molded it or cut it.

By staying connected to my visual artist roots, I offer my design clients the best of both worlds – inspired creativity grounded in focused expertise about design, printing and production. The result is a seamless meshing of two powerful worlds of rich creativity – similar yet different – complimentary yet at times contradictory.
